Buckinghamshire Local Heritage List

Buckinghamshire has a large number of locally important heritage assets, which contribute positively to the local character and identity of Buckinghamshire, and which are valued by local people.

These heritage assets, which may be buildings, archaeological remains, parks, gardens or public works of art, sometimes have little or no protection, and over time our special places can be lost.

By adding these heritage assets to a Local Heritage List we can ensure their local importance is recognised and taken into account in the planning process. Once on the list, these assets become known as Non-Designated Heritage Assets (NDHAs).

They differ from those sites that have statutory protection and national designations, such as Listed Buildings, Scheduled Monuments and Registered Parks and Gardens.

Discover Bucks Museum in Aylesbury

This Autumn we’re stepping back to the 1990s at Discover Bucks Museum in Aylesbury in our new exhibition I Grew Up 90s.

Relive the decade that brought us Cool Britannia, Britpop and unforgettable style and music. From the Teletubbies to Trainspotting, Lara Croft to The Spice Girls, I Grew Up 90s is a time capsule of that era, seen through the eyes of those who lived it as children and teenagers.

Revisit the toys, games, fashion, films, music and television shows that shaped a generation — and even test your skills on a retro arcade machine featuring classics like Tetris, Tekken, Street Fighter and Sonic the Hedgehog. Come and join us and get ready to exclaim, ‘I remember that!’

For more information see Discover Bucks Museum website.

Local walks

Where to find new and interesting walks:

A series of walks curated by Councillor Steve Smith are available at Rural Rambler.

Walking in Bucks has loads of walks to download and print, free. They also have books of walks, details of all the walking groups in the county and much more. Whether you want to walk on your own or with a group all the information is there in one place.

John Harris who maintains the website, said ‘There is so much walking information on the web but it is difficult to find.

Walking in Bucks, which is part of the Walking in England website, has brought it together in one place so whether you are walking from home, or away on holiday, you will be able to find a walk suitable for you’.

With walks from half a mile to twelve miles plus long, and a note of suitability for pushchairs and wheelchairs, everyone can find a walk to enjoy. So home or away, check out the websites and get walking!

Simply Walk

Walking is a great way to get out and about and meet new people while improving your health and wellbeing. Simply Walkers are out in all weathers, smiling, talking and enjoying each others company.

Our volunteer-led walks run all year, with over 700 walkers who join us on one of over 65 walks across the county every week. Volunteer leaders are there to help you walk at your own pace, so there is no need to worry about being left behind, lost or feeling left out.

Most walks are weekly, but we also hold fortnightly and monthly walks at some locations. All new walkers are welcome whether you are fit and active, haven’t exercised in a long time, or have been advised to join by a doctor.

So, why not join us and start walking. We have walks to suit almost everyone, so come along!
